NSS of Govt. MAM College in collaboration with global peace organised Plantation drive in the college campus on 12-08-2017
As per the environmental statistics , within a few decades of industrial civilization the man has destroyed 50% of the world’s forest and if the present rate of deforestation goes unabated the world is going to befit a catastrophe by the end of 21st century endangering the whole life on Earth. The plants are not only vital for oxygen, food and shelter but most of the medicines are also extracted from the plants. The ozone layer depletion can cause severe life threatening circumstances coupled with severe respiratory and cardiovascular diseases besides throat inflammation, chest pain and congestion. The forests are world’s air conditioning system and we are on the verge of switching it off.
While spearheading the mission to serve humanity the NSS Volunteers of Govt. M.A.M College Jammu in collaboration with Global Peace Organization organized on 12-8-2017, a plantation drive in the college campus to celebrate the International Youth Day. The inaugural sapling was planted by worthy Principal of the college Dr. Ajeet Angral. While addressing the volunteers Mr. Angral highlighted the role of youth for the protection & promotion of environment. He said that the deforestation is going to hit hard the very existence of life on this planet. A tree is like a mother in whose lap a child gets peace, love and care. He appreciated the role of NSS volunteers and its dynamic Programme Officers and also the organization for choosing the college for the plantation drive and urged the youth to come forward in large number in the service of society.
Dr. Prashant Bakshi, Senior Scientist SKUAST said that a nation that destroy soil destroys itself and appealed the volunteers to make India green in national interest.
Dr. Sangeeta Sudan the Programme Officer NSS emphasized that we should give earth a hand, care and plant more and more trees. She conveyed that earth has sufficient means to satisfy our needs but not our greeds. She urged the volunteers to protect the flora & fauna of this planet.
The other prominent persons who participated in the drive include Dr. Muzamil Hussain Programme Officer, Sheikh Altaf Hussain, Chairman Global PEACE Organization and his team members, Prof. Shabila Wani Programme Officer, Dr.Rakesh Kumar Koul Coordinator IQAC,Prof. Shiwani Walia, Prof. Sanjay Manhas.
