In order to inculcate nationalistic feeling among students, an Urdu Mushaira on the theme “Independence Day (Yom e Aazadi) was organized by the Department of Urdu on 18-08-2017 in the seminar hall of Govt. M.A.M College Jammu. Students of the college hailing from Reasi, Kathua, Ramban, Srinagar, Kargil and Ladakh participated with great enthusiasm. A poetry recitation competition was also held during this literary function so that students get involved in creative activities thereby learning the ethics of humanity and responsibility towards society and nation. A total of fifteen students participated in the event.The students who recited their poems included Rajan Singh Shams, Iftikhar Raza, Toseef Raza, Shivam Sharma Shivam, Zahid Shah, Barkat Ilahi, Idrees Naik, Bilal Ahmed, Sadaqat Hussain, Tayab Farooq, Mohd Naeem, Asif Ali Aakhoon etc.The first prize was bagged by Rajan Singh Shamas, the second prize and third prizes were given to Iftikhar Raza and Shahnawaz Bali respectively. The event evoked an overwhelming response from the students especially the fresher’s who not only enjoyed the event but also were greatly encouraged. The Mushaira held in Seminar Hall of College was presided over by Principal Dr. Ajeet Angral. Originally Conceptualized by Dr Shahnaz Shohab Malik, this grand event was perfectly co-ordinated by Dr. Kaushal Kiran Thakur under the overall guidance of Dr. Liaqat Jafri.The Mushaira was conducted by Professor Irfan Arif in his unique and inimitable style. The poetic competition was judged by esteemed professors Prof Renu Nanda, Prof Munir Hussain, Prof Bhawna Khajuria and Prof Shabila Wani.In his presidential address, Dr Ajeet Angral appreciated the sincere efforts of faculty of Urdu Department for organizing such a wonderful literary celebration in the premises of this prestigious and historic college. |
