Kargil Vijay Divas Commemoration by NCC Wing
NCC Wings (2 J&K Boys Bn NCC Jammu and 1 J&K Naval Unit NCC Srinagar) of Maulana Azad Memorial College organized a programme to commemorate the Kargil Vijay Diwas in the college campus.The programme was started after paying the floral tribute to the Martyrs of Kargil War. Dr. G. S. Rakwal, Principal of the College, in his message highlighted the importance of the Vijay Diwas as it is the Day to observe India's victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War for ousting Pakistani Forces from their occupied positions on the mountain tops of Northern Kargil District in Ladakh in 1999. He also appreciated the efforts of the NCC cadets of the college in maintaining the discipline in the college campus and instilling the roots of nationalism among the society. Prof. Sanjay Karlupia Head of Department of Geology lauded the efforts and initiatives of the NCC units of the college and interacted with the cadets.
The programme was graced by a special guest Rfn. Kuldeep Singh of 13 JAK Rifl., who is a Kargil War veteran. In his interaction with the cadets the veteran told the stories of courage and resilience shown by the soldiers during the Kargil war and advised the cadets to work harder to make India a superpower. He also recalled the slogan given by the Cpt. Vikram Batra at the time of attack against the enemy during the operation Vijay. Mr. Guddu Sharma, a special guest on the occasion, paid tribute to the Martyrs by singing a patriotic song. Major Dr. Karan Singh (Associate NCC Officer ) in his address said that the youth are idealistic and want their lives to have greater meaning than just collecting money. Youth needs to leave their mark, to do something above average and unique. Joining the armed forces provides them the opportunity to serve the nation like no other job can . The cadets of the Naval wing performed various items including, a skit near the Administrative Block on the life of a soldier, a group song , recitation of poems and a short speech. Other faculty members who graced the occasion are Dr. Koushal Kiran, PO NSS, Dr. Banpreet Kour, Prof. Rajesh Kotwal, Prof. Sanjay Sambyal, Dr. Ranjodh Singh Jamwal, Dr Seema Jamwal, Dr. Shehnaz , Prof. Ajay Virdi, Prof Meena Sharma Prof. Bhanu Priya and other senior faculty members were also present. More than 100 NCC cadets and other students of the college participated in the programme Dr. Anil Singh (CTO) Naval Wing in his address to the cadets said that providing service to the nation by dedicating one’s life to it elevates the person to the status of a hero. This is truly a noble cause worth dying for. For the passionate and honest youth, there can be no better career option than the great Indian Armed Forces . He also presented the formal vote of thanks and Cadet Diksha Rajput conducted the proceedings of the event.
