National Mathematics Day Celebrated at M A M College
A Guest lecture on the eve of National Mathematics Day under the aegis of “ Azadi Ka Amrit Mahaotsav” and “My College My Pride” , was organized on December 22, 2022 by the Department of Mathematics, Maulana Azad Memorial College, Jammu under the Patronage of Dr. Gurdev Singh Rakwal , Principal of the college. The chief guest on the occasion was Prof. Dr. Bhopinder Singh, Head of Department of Mathematics from Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu and Dr. Ajay Kumar from Department of Mathematics , IIT, Jammu was the resource person. Dr. Gurdev Singh, Principal of the college, appreciated the initiatives taken by the Department of Mathematics in organizing lecture by eminent mathematicians on the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan. Dr. Shally Gupta HoD formally welcomed the dignitaries on the occasion of National Mathematics Day . National Mathematics Day is celebrated on December 22 across the nation every year. The National Mathematics Day is marked to recognize and celebrate the work of Srinivasa Ramanujan. Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Indian mathematical genius, was born on this day in 1887. The former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on February 26, 2012, declared December 22 as the National Mathematics Day to mark the Indian mathematician’s birth anniversary.
Dr. Ajay Kumar in his lecture introduced the students to the work of Ramanujan which includes the work on the partitions, Roger-Ramanujan Identities and Continued fractions. He also interacted with the students and answered various queries related to the mathematics research and the opportunities in mathematics education. Professor Dr. Bhopinder Singh appreciated the work put forth by the department of mathematics in dissemination of the knowledge of mathematics to the young aspiring students. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Anupama Gupta. More than 100 students attended the lecture. Other faculty members who were present on the occasion are Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Dr. Kamaljeet Kour, Prof. Rajesh Kotwal, Dr. Namita Singh, Dr. Anil Singh, Dr. Anu Khanna and Prof. Farooq Ahmed.The programme was conducted by Dr. Vishally Sharma.
