Cadet Narender Kumar of 1 J&K Naval Unit NCC, Maulana Azad Memorial College, Jammu brought laurels to the college and the J&K Directorate of NCC by participating in a month-long Overseas Deployment Camp. Total 10 cadets were selected for this prestigious camp from all over India. Cadet Narender Kumar was the only cadet from the Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh Directorate of NCC selected for this camp on the basis of his overall performance in different national and regional camps. On his return from the Deployment, Dr. G.S. Rakwal, Principal of the College, and Dr. Sanjay Karlupia, Head of The Department of Geology, congratulated him for his achievement and acknowledged the contribution of NCC in representing the College at international level as well. While speaking to other cadets present in the meet, Dr. Rakwal appreciated the zeal with which cadets are working for the unity and discipline in the society. Further, Dr. Anil Singh, CT of 1 J&K Naval Unit NCC of the college, apprised the principal about the upcoming camps and activities that Naval Unit has planned besides regular fall ins. Also, he explained to the Cadets and the faculty members present on the occasion that Overseas Deployment (OSD) is a great opportunity for NCC naval cadets to visit foreign countries onboard Navy or Coast Guard ships. Ships mostly visit 3 to 4 ports in various countries in the Indian Ocean Region and participate in various exercises with other navies. Cadets are attached for the entire duration of the sailing on board ships. Ships stay at each port for 3 to 4 days. During the stay at foreign ports, they get the opportunity to visit historical places, interact with members of their armed forces and participate in games with their teams. Selection for OSD depends upon their performance during RDC/NSC. Cadets are nominated in the final list which is prepared by DGNCC. Unlike Youth Exchange Programme (YEP) only naval NCC cadets get an opportunity for OSD. While sharing his experience, Narender Kumar also expressed his gratitude to the Commanding officer of 1 J&K Naval Unit NCC Srinagar, Principal of the College, CT of the College and PI staff for their timely support and training. |
