Earth Day, 2023
The NSS Unit of Maulana Azad Memorial College in collaboration with the Eco Club of the college, celebrated Earth Day, 2023 in recognition of the need to preserve and protect our planet for future generations. This year’s Earth Day theme is “Invest in Our Planet” which emphasizes the importance of collective action to tackle the challenges facing our planet. The Earth Day celebration at the college was undertaken on two consecutive days and featured activities and events, including: A seed sowing ceremony on campus under the “Ek Ped Desh Ke Naam” campaign took place, wherein the students registered themselves on the Eco-Mitram app to formally join the campaign who further sowed seeds in pots to initiate the process of transformation of a seed to a full grown tree or in other words- “Beej Aaropan se Vriksh Aaropan.” A showcase of student-led environmental projects focusing on the concept of the three Rs- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle was also on display.
“We are excited to bring our college community together to celebrate Earth Day and to highlight the importance of taking action to protect our planet,” said the College Principal, Dr. G.S. Rakwal. “We hope that our events will inspire our students, faculty, and staff to think more critically about their impact on the environment and to take steps towards a more sustainable future.”
The event was organized under the patronage of principal (Prof ) Dr.G.S Rakwal and supervised by NSS Programme Officer Dr. Koushal Kiran Thakur, Eco Club Convener Prof. Sudesh Kumar. Prof. Ruth K. Masehi Convener of the NSS Advisory committee and Dr. Naveeta Sharma, Assistant Professor, Environmental Science.
