| The Department of Mathematics , Maulana Azad Memorial College, Jammu organized a “Mathematics Quiz Competition” on the eve of National Mathematics day on 22 December 2023 under the aegis of Viksit Bharat @2047.At the onset, all participants along with the acting Principal of the College, Prof. Neeraj Sharma were welcomed by Dr. Shally Gupta, Head of the Department of Mathematics. In her welcome address , Dr. Shally Gupta spoke in detail about the life and work of Srinavasa Ramnujan, the genius Indian Mathematician from the previous century, whose birth anniversary is celebrated as a National Mathematics Day every year on December 22. The celebrations aim at spreading awareness about the importance of mathematics and the contributions made by Srinivasa Ramanujan, in the field of mathematics. A short video documentary on his life and work was displayed for the students and participants by Dr. Anil Singh. The quiz was conducted by the Quiz Masters Dr. Kailsah Sharma and Prof. Sonam Mehta , and the Jury members were Dr. Kamaljeet Kour, Dr. Shittal Sharma and Dr. Anu Khanna. A total of five teams from Department of Mathematics, MAM College, School of Sciences Cluster University of Jammu and Department of Statistics University of Jammu participated in this quiz competition. The First position was bagged by the team of Sahil Sharma and Ankush of Department of Statistics , University of Jammu. The second and third positions were bagged by the teams of Harkirat Singh , Bipun Kumar and Monika Kumari , Amanjyot Singh respectively of School of Sciences, Cluster University of Jammu.In his remarks after distribution of prizes to the winning teams, Prof. Neeraj Sharma, expressed the importance of awareness of mathematics as it is the mother of all sciences , indeed it has found its deep applications in social sciences and economics. Other faculty members who were present during the competition are Prof. Rajesh Kotwal, Dr. Khalid Manzoor and Dr. Rustam Abass.The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Kamaljeet Kour. |
