Jammu, December 22, 2024: The Department of Mathematics, Maulana Azad Memorial (MAM) College, Jammu, successfully celebrated National Mathematics Day with great enthusiasm and academic fervor. As part of the celebrations, a one-day student seminar was organized, where over 25 students from various colleges across the Jammu division presented short talks on diverse topics in mathematics.The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Shally Gupta, Head of the Department of Mathematics. This was followed by a technical session that featured engaging presentations by students on various mathematical fields, including Analysis, Geometry, Topology, Algebra, Graph Theory, and their applications in different domains.National Mathematics Day is celebrated annually on December 22 to honor the birth anniversary of the legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887–1920). Known for his extraordinary contributions to fields such as number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions, Ramanujan's work continues to inspire mathematicians worldwide. This day is observed to promote mathematical thinking and encourage young minds to pursue the subject.In the Postgraduate (PG) category, the winners of the seminar were:1st position: Aryan Gupta (School of Sciences, Cluster University of Jammu)2nd position: Aniket Singh (School of Sciences, Cluster University of Jammu)3rd position: Shazia Kousar (MAM College)In the Undergraduate (UG) category, the winners were:1st position: Angel Sharma (GCW Gandhinagar)2nd position: Ayush (GDC R. Pura)3rd position: Surbhi Sharma (MAM College)The presentations were evaluated by a distinguished jury comprising Dr. Renu Anand (PSPS GCW Gandhinagar), Dr. Rajesh Sharma (GDC Hiranagar), and Dr. Kailash Sharma (MAM College).Prizes were awarded to the winners by Prof. Dr. B. B. Anand, Principal of MAM College. In his address, he appreciated the efforts of the Department of Mathematics for organizing the seminar, emphasizing the importance of events like these to nurture young talent and promote mathematical excellence.The program was meticulously coordinated by Dr. Shittal Sharma and Dr. Kamaljeet Kour presented the vote of thanks and the seminar report.
