| The Department of English, Govt. MAM College, Jammu organized a two-day Inter-college workshop on the topic “Communication Skills and Personality Development. The aim of the workshop was to empower students to understand and learn communication skills as well as techniques to improve their personality. 04 colleges of Jammu city with 60 students participated in the workshop. Worthy Principal of the College, Prof. Archana Kaul, was present at the inaugural function. Dr Monika Sharma, Dean of Humanities and Liberal Arts, was the chief guest of the event. She gave a pertinent speech regarding the rapid change in communication systems today and advised students to become ideal communicators and articulate their thoughts clearly, develop confidence and enhance their personality. Prof. Ruth K Masehi presented the keynote address on the aim of the workshop. On the first day of the workshop, eminent resource person Dr. Gurdeep Kour, former Associate Professor of English, delivered a lecture on the importance of Listening Skills. She deliberated on the importance of posture and active listening. The second lecture was delivered by Dr. Reena Salaria Head of the Department Linguistics and Literature. Her lecture focused on oral narrations and linguistics. She made the students aware of the scientific study of language. The second day commenced with the lecture of Prof. Ruth K. Masehi on the importance of Reading skills. Many interesting activities were part of this session. A spontaneous reading exercise, where many students participated and gave a practical application of the reading skills. Many students participated in this impromptu exercise. An entertaining interlude of anecdotes was also part of this session. The second session was a special lecture delivered by Prof. Archana Kaul, Principal of the college, on the importance of creative thoughts, ideas and expression. She emphasized the importance of imagination and inspiration in language. The last lecture of the session was delivered by Dr. Shiv Mangal Singh, Assistant Professor of Psychology, on the topic “Personality Development, Unlocking Your Best Self”. He spoke about the importance of personality and its impact on a student’s life. The programme was conducted by Prof. Menaka Rajput, welcome address was given by Dr. Atiya Noor, Dr.Kawaljit Kour and Prof. Nishu were active organizers of the programme. Prof. Sanjay Samyal presented a vote of thanks at the end of the programme. |
