Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy: Webinar
Department of Political Science, MAM College Jammu, organized a Webinar on the topic ‘Electoral Literacy for stronger Democracy” on 24th January 2022 under the banner of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The webinar was organised under the patronage of Dr. G.S. Rakwal, Principal of the College and was attended by Faculty and students of all streams. The resource person was Mr. Toseef Ahmed Zarger, Social Welfare Officer, Doda. It was organized under the guidance of Dr. Seema Jamwal (HOD). The programme began with the welcome address by Dr. Seema Jamwal Head of the Department of Political Science. The Resource person with the examples of ground level realities explained the importance of electoral Literacy for a democratic country . In his address he also talked about the relationship between rights and duties. The resource person highlighted the importance of functional specialization for the proper functioning of the democracy. Mr. Toseef Ahmed Zarger while interacting with the students said that it is the responsibility of the educated citizens especially students to use their power to cast vote vigilantly. The principal of the college, Dr. G.S. Rakwal also shared his views regarding the importance of one single vote. He also highlighted that it is due to the lack of awareness among the masses that weaker sections especially the vulnerable ones are left behind from getting the benefits of the various schemes of the government. In the interactive session the students asked questions and the resource person as well as the faculty members of the Department of Political science answered their queries.The principal of the college appreciated the outstanding efforts of organizers and specially applauded the students for their active participation. He also congratulated Dr. Seema Jamwal (Head of the Department), Prof. Vijeta Anand and Prof. Lukesha Dubgotra for organizing this webin
