Career Counselling and Placement cell of Govt. MAM College, conducted a webinar on the Tourism as a Career option : A way to Atamnirbhar Bharat under the ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’ (India @75) program. Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav is a series of events to be organized by the Government of India to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence. The webinar was conducted under the patronage of Principal, Prof. G. S Rakwal. He emphasized the importance of holding events of the kind especially in these hard times when the morale of the people are already down. He emphasised that even with imminent fluctuations in the economy, the hospitality industry has always shown great resilience in its business and has even managed to survive when other sectors have not. He stressed that the hospitality industry has boomed over recent years and it is expected to continue growing in the future as technological advancements continue to be on the increase.Dr Suvidha Khanna, Assistant Professor in the school of Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Jammu was the Resource person for the event. She spoke in detail as to how tourism can be opted as an career choice. She also motivated the students to opt tourism as a career choice because it comes with its own set of advantages like good salary, adventurous, satisfactory hikes, one gets to know more about cultures. She also encouraged the students to become enterprenures rather than job seekers. Students can try their hands in diverse tourism options like food service management, event management , accommodation and hospitality management. She talked about the pivotal role that tourism can play in the revival of the Covid -19 hit economy .The webinar was followed by an interactive session where students in large numbers posed their queries to the resource person.The entire programme was anchored by Prof Bharti Salathia Convenor of the Career Counselling cell. The programme concluded with the formal vote of thanks by prof .Mohd Ashraf, Banpreet kour (Convenor Placement Cell) , Prof. Satinder juneja, Prof. Bhanu Priya,and Prof. Anil Singh were instrumental in organizing the webinar. |
